How fine -grits- do you sand tops and b/s before applying epoxy. How fine between coats of finish?
Do I need to use microbeads with System 3 for filling Macassar-if so what proportions?
Thanks

Straight grained mahogany or EIR, and tops, P220 works fine, although P320 is a bit 'safer', perhaps. P400 is as far as I feel is necessary for a laquer finish guitar. If I'm oiling something, I go all the way to 1500 and steel wool.

220 is fine for epoxy and Laquer. Oil finish is different, you have to go much higher.

Hi Bob!
Sand to P320, safest way to remove all scratches. I don?t recommend the use of microbeads with epoxy for porefilling, because this are small glassbubbles. I use instead an Thickener called Aerosil. Its easier to squegee it into the pores, the result is much better.

Bob, you asked about sanding tops before epoxy filling. I sand tops to P400. You do not need to fill tops such as spruce or cedar. just a seal coat of shellac is all that is needed on spruce and cedar tops.

I don't use microbeads except on very porous woods.
